This year Vicki, Jake, Luke and I (Paul) will be taking part in the Glasgow event (along with as many other people we can talk in to it). It will be held on the 4th of October 2009 and will be staged at Bellahouston Park.
The plan just now is for me and Vicki to push the boys in buggies, although I would like to have Jake on my shoulders. I believe the average person could walk it in under an hour, so I reckon going with that info, we should complete it in around 3 or 4 hours given mine and Vicki's physical condition. (Vicki is going to kill me!)
All money raised will go to the Walking With Giants Foundation, They are a voluntary non-profit making Registered Charity set up to enrich the lives of individuals affected by Majewski Osteodysplastic Primordial Dwarfism Type II and other forms of Primordial Dwarfism, along with their families. For more information about them please visit there website: www.WalkingWithGiants.org or click on there logo above or below.
What & Why this charity:
As you know, Jake had a rough start to life, overcoming the odds and proving everyone wrong (medically speaking). Niggling on the back of everyone’s minds now for a number of years, if not since birth, is why was Jake born so small (420g or 14Oz), and why has he continued to stay that way. The answer to this is still officially unknown, but it has been suggested that Jake too, has a form of Primordial Dwarfism (PD), in particular Russell Silver Syndrome (RSS). Diagnosis for us and Jakes medical team has always been but on the back burner due to more pressing medical issues, like heart surgery, hernia surgery or general ill health. As Jake gets older and perhaps because Luke, Jakes little brother, is now starting to outgrow his big brother (at only 7 months), we began actively seeking answers to this issue. On contacting WWGF charity, we were instantly made to feel welcome; we joined them for a weekend break, and got to meet a number of families, that too have children similar to Jake, with a number of them overcoming some of many issues Jake did, due to being born so small. These quarterly weekend meets are only one of the numerous services that the charity provides for these kids and their families, and this is the reason why, we are supporting them.
Money can be donated securely online via the JustGiving Widget to the left, it is very easy to do, even my mum could do it (that's the now Turkish Granny, LOL) or if you would like to do it the old fashioned way give us a call. We are using the JustGiving service under Vicki's name but it is it is actually for the 4 of us, so please give generously.
On a serious note, we would be very grateful for anything al all.
