Jake Andrew Ferry
This page is still under development, as it is hard to put into words the journey that had be Jakes life thus far:
In the mean time, we think it is important that we have some information up on the site about Jake, as this is really what the site is all about.
I'll start by introducing ourselves, My name is Paul and my fiancée name is Vick, we had our first child on the 23rd of January 2006, he was born 13 weeks early and weighed only 420 grams / 14 ounces, and we called him Jake.
To put that into perspective, most people say that a light premature baby weighs less that a bag of sugar (which is a miracle in its self) but Jake weighed half that again, so less that a half bag of sugar).
In fact he was that small the was delivered still in the sack to give him the best chance of survival, although we were told this was unrealistic for someone so small.
Jake spent around 6 months in hospital, with around 100 days of that in intensive care, and the remaining time in the SCBU. Life for Jake during this time was very hard, he battled on a daily basis for his life, and underwent a number of life threatening surgeries.
Apologies for being a bit vague, but there is so much detail that I could go into when talking about Jakes history, I guess you will just need to wait until we get a chance to finish this section of the site properly.
In the mean time, here is some interesting facts about Jake:
At birth Jake weighed around the same as a big bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocolate.
At birth Jake was placed inside a small plastic bag to keep him warm.
Jake has had over 25 blood transfusions (we lost count after this).
Jake favourite words are: Stuck, Yes, Chocolate, Something Special & There a Doggy (for any animal big or small).
At present Jake is around 3 and a half years old, he is 85 cm's in height and 8.86Kg's in weight (about the average size of an 18 month old baby).
