The Twitter Info Page
For those of you that don't know what twitter is, I have designed this page to help explain things, and for those of you that do, I will also be explaining how twitter will be implemented on this site
First of all twitter is a social networking site found at www.twitter.com, similar to Bebo, Facebook etc, but slightly different. "Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?" - quote from twitter.com
I will leave it there on the explanation, for more info on Twitter, check it out at www.twitter.com
Why / How?
Why?: I am using twitter as a quick method of leaving updates on the site, without having to edit the website directly, or having to log on to my PC, it can all be done via my mobile, (if need be) or any computer connected to the net.
The other reason is that twitter is now a global phenomenon, and because of this, there are many free tools and scripts available that can be easily added to the site, go give added functionality and also make thing look nice.
How?: Twitter will be integrated to the site in 3 main ways:
1. There is a small twitter widget incorporated in the menu to the left of you. It is under the Menu tab "Latest News". This widget will give you the last comment made by us or "tweet" as it is known. There is a up and down arrow if you want to scroll through the other comments too.
2. The other way in which the Twitter comments will be visible is on the "Latest News" page, this is accessible again though the menu tab "Latest News" then "Latest News" link or from the middle menu button at the top of the page labelled "Latest News".
The main difference here is that, all the links will open up a standard web page just like this. the page will contain all the latest news on what is happing with both Jake and the site. Towards the bottom of the page you will see the heading "Twitter Updates" followed by the 10 most recent comments - example below:
The good thing about both these options, it that visitors, don't need to do anything, you can just come to the website and see all the messages. Both options also have a "follow me" links, this will open up the "jake420com" profile page at twitter.com
3. The final implementation, of twitter, will come in the form of TweetBoard, this is an addition to the site, that will be available on the "Home", Latest News" Guest Book" & this page. It is currently in Alpha testing so it is very possible that it will develop along with the site as it comes together.
TweetBoard is accessed through either a green or red tab found on the left had side of each of the pages listed above. Green meaning that there is no new comments and Red meaning that there are new comments, there will also be a number to indicate how many comments there are. To access TweetBoard, just click on either the greed or red tab, to have TweetBoard pane open up
Once you click on either tab you will get something that looks not too un-similar to this, popping out from the left side of the screen
The benefit of this addition is that it allows you to clearly see all comments, and if you have a Twitter account, you can also post a comment. This is different to the other two Twitter implementations on the website, as they are from the "jake420com" timeline exclusively, meaning that they only show comments that we have posted, not messages that we have received.
Effectively it is jut another way of communicating with us. It is not indented to replace the Guestbook, as that will still stay on the site, but more of an easy to use addition, that is handy for replying to comments that we have made.
